Statement from the SFNY in support of athletes participating in the 2025 Princess Sofia
The Sailing Foundation of NY (SFNY) is excited about the USA’s prospects for the Princess Sofia Regatta. SFNY, alongside our trusted partners (America One Racing, The Schoonmaker Foundation and American Magic), eagerly cheer on all athletes competing this week, including the nine athletes in Project Podium and the 14 athletes competing as part of US Sailing’s Olympic Development program.
Did you know? SFNY, A1R, American Magic and the Schoonmaker Foundation provided direct funds to support 23 athletes and 10 coaches at Princess Sofia.
Here’s how:
- Lodging and transportation grants for coaches Sally Barkow and Rosie Chapman
- $1,500 grants to each of the 14 ODP participating sailor athletes
- Covered all athlete expenses for nine Project Podium athletes
We expect to provide more than $150K of qualified expense reimbursement for participants in this pivotal event that kicks off the 2028 Olympic quad.
The SFNY takes a long view toward the Olympics. Just look at the breadth and depth of talent we’re honored to work with every day. Our country has 17-year-olds participating in a world-level completion against the best in the around the world! Regattas such as the Princess Sofia are a prime opportunity as an athlete to measure performance against the global completion.
For our consortium (SFNY, A1R, AM, Schoonmaker) it enables us to not only help set the table for 2028 but also support prospects for 2032 and beyond.
This is what it takes to cultivate and sustainably support athletes who want to be medalists – not just competitors – at the Olympics.
Let’s go!
