Welcome to the Sailing Foundation of New York
We work with athletes, regatta organizations, yacht clubs and sailing development programs across the country to support US athletes, Disabled Sailing programs and maritime education.
At the Sailing Foundation of New York (SFNY), we support not only individuals who demonstrate the commitment and the potential to represent the United States of America at the highest possible levels in the sport of sailing, but also the organizations and programs committed to growing our sport.
How SFNY Works
The SFNY supports a wide variety of US sailor athletes. Our programs include Olympic athletes, youth athletes, foiling athletes and athletes competing in the Pan Am Games, World Championships and even the Youth America’s Cup. After thorough application review of a potential athlete account, the SFNY works on a model of direct expense reimbursement without a single charge required of any athlete. Approved athletes or organizations submit a list of qualified expenses followed by receipts. Only after a thorough review are funds disbursed. The SFNY does not pay a per diem, mileage or provide unsubstantiated grants. Typically, the SFNY does not directly solicit donations for athletes with SFNY accounts.

Special Initiatives
Project Podium
Project Podium is A1R’s advanced, highly selective program for sailors who have demonstrated podium-level Olympic class potential and are committed to competing at the highest international level. Bolstered by our Special Partners, athletes receive comprehensive, world-class support such as coaching, performance analytics, sports science, mental resilience and equipment optimization, all designed to convert top American talent into consistent medal contenders.
A1R Academy
The A1R Academy is a springboard for exceptional emerging athletes in foiling and non-foiling disciplines who have progressed beyond broad development, providing individualized support as they build toward a fully established high-performance campaign. The Academy is in partnership with the SFNY and The Schoonmaker Foundation.
Foiling Pipeline
The Foiling Pipeline is A1R’s youth and emerging-athlete development program, introducing sailors to modern high-performance foiling through structured coaching, equipment access, camps and competition. Built in partnership with local clubs and regional programs, it creates a clear, inclusive pathway that develops depth while preparing athletes for the technical, physical and tactical demands of advanced international foiling. The Foiling Pipeline is in partnership with the SFNY, The Schoonmaker Foundation and American Magic.

Support Our Sport
100% of your donation will be used to support our athletes and partner organizations.
SFNY is a 501(c)3 organization rated as a four-star charity on Charity Navigator. We are a volunteer-run organization. Donations to the SFNY are fully tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. There is no charge to any athlete and organization. 100% of all SFNY contributions are allocated to directly support eligible organizations and athletes, with no administrative or operating expenses funded by donors. Any costs are covered by the SFNY Board of Directors.
